Nicky Jam has entered a new phase of his life, both musically and personally.

The 43-year-old reggaeton icon released his much-anticipated eighth studio album “Insomnio” on September 6th, marking his return after three years.

This album reflects more than just catchy beats – it’s a deep, introspective journey through sleepless nights and personal growth.

A Reflection of Sleepless Nights

The creation of Insomnio, meaning “insomnia” in Spanish, was a cathartic process for Nicky. His inspiration for the album came from a challenging time in his life.

“I used this album to talk about the situation that I was going through,” Nicky shared in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

“Whether it was my love life, whether it was my drinking, partying, and all that stuff. I really didn’t sleep for most of the time of these last two years.”

The 14-track album includes collaborations with renowned artists like Sean Paul, Ryan Castro, and Trueno, blending upbeat rhythms with introspective lyrics.

These tracks mirror Nicky’s journey of finding himself while battling his inner struggles.

“Whatever I’m going through, I’ll talk about it. That’s the best way to go,” Nicky said. His honesty in the music makes the album a deeply personal one, giving listeners a window into his world.

Music as an Escape and Healing

Insomnio arrived during a time when Nicky found himself drowning in excessive partying and drinking.

Music, however, became his anchor, helping him regain his balance.

“It helped me get my mojo back,” Nicky admitted, while acknowledging that he’s slowed down now to prioritize his health.

In this new chapter of his life, Nicky reflects on the struggles that even the most successful artists face.

He likens his journey to that of rock stars who, despite their fame, battled similar inner demons.

“The reality is, because people saw my documentary Nicky Jam: El Ganador, they think my life is just… I’m already fixed, and everything’s OK.

But that’s not the way it works. You keep battling,” Nicky said, highlighting that recovery is a continuous process.

The Magic of His Music

The album’s title track, “Insomnio,” concludes with a merengue version that captures the essence of Nicky’s artistry.

The upbeat rhythm disguises a sad message underneath, reflecting the duality of life – where joy and pain coexist. “Normally, a merengue song is very upbeat… but this song is really a sad song,” Nicky explained.

“That’s the magic of my music. If you listen to ‘El Perdon,’ it’s one of my biggest hits. And ‘El Perdon’ is really a sad song.”

Through his music, Nicky continues to express his emotions, creating a blend of sounds that make you want to dance, but also think deeply.

Finding Love and Peace

Aside from his musical success, Nicky is experiencing happiness in his personal life.

He recently married Colombian model Juana Valentina Varón, and this new love has brought him a sense of fulfillment he hadn’t felt before.

“You can have 50 girls coming in and out, and you still feel lonely. That doesn’t make you feel complete,” Nicky reflected. “I found somebody I love. I found somebody that’s with me and makes me feel way better.”

Nicky’s marriage has grounded him, allowing him to slow down and embrace a more balanced lifestyle. “I have to work so much, so I have no time to party like I used to. I feel way better if I’m functioning.”

Looking to the Future

With Insomnio out, Nicky’s goal now is simple: to find peace and pay it forward by helping emerging artists.

“My dream is to be at peace, be happy, have good health, and keep doing what I like doing,” Nicky said. He hopes to one day sign and mentor artists, helping them achieve even greater success than himself.

“Hopefully, I’ll find someone with so much talent, and I can dedicate my life to this person and this project.”

As Nicky Jam looks ahead, it’s clear that both his music and his life are evolving – and through it all, he’s found a place of peace, ready to continue inspiring and creating.
